Val Morgan Cinema Ad, January, 2002

Reality Check placed a cinema ad that ran for 6 months in the local movie theaters in Warren and Saratoga County.


Tri-county Summit, February 23, 2002

Warren, Washington and Saratoga County Reality Check Chapters held a mini-summit training for over 200 teens. Teens were trained on the Reality Check message and the marketing practices the Tobacco Indutries use to tarket teens. Yes from MTV Road Rules was our featured guest for the day. The event was held at the Queensbury Hotel and wrapped up with an awesome dance party!!


Troy Regional Reality Check Summit, May 2, 2002

Reality Check holds 1 regional summit per year. Seventeen counties joined together at Fulton Montgomery Community College to educate and train over 300 teens on tobacco related issues. Malik from MTV's Real World and Yes from MTV Road Rules were there to support the movement and hold trainings on expressing yourself through art.


Stick it to Em! Press Conference, May 22, 2002

Reality Check's first state wide initiate was called Stick it Em! Our goal was to expose the truth about how the tobacco industry is still tageting teens though marketing in magazines that teens read every day. The state collected over 15,000 subscription cards from magazines that hosted tobacco ads in them and sent them back to the publishers. We also held a press conference at the Capital Building in Albany to let the public know that Reality Check means business!!


Alternative High School Presentation, June,12 2002

Warren and Washington counties have teamed up with a group of teens at the Alternative High Center. This group creates powerpoint presentations and educated over 100 teens in their buildings about Reality Check.


Battle of the Bands, June 29, 2002

This was our first Battle of the Bands event. It originally was supposed to be held in Shepard Park but due to the rain we resheduled and held in in Bolton High School gym. Eight bands came out for the event to help support the Reality Check Movement. The bands were, Cold Libations, End of June, Blind, Purge, Wallace, Equillibrium, Down Turn and Four In July.


Foam Party, July 13, 2002

Reality Check teamed up with Fly 92 to kick off the first ever Teen Dance Foam Party at the Great Escape.


Summer Ice Skating, August 9, 2002

That's right Reality Check teens did a little ice skating during the summer at the Glens Falls Civic Center.


East Field Baseball Game, August 13, 2002

Reality Check made an appearance at the East Field Lumberjacks ball game. We gave away water bottles stuffed with tobacco facts to teens in the park that were enjoying the game.


Great Escape Reality Check Invasion, August 27, 2002

Reality Check invaded Great Escape in August. RC teens walked around the park with palm cards, banners and free give-a-ways. Reality Check was working on a Global Initiative of getting petitions signed for the Tobacco Global Treaty. We collected over 300 signatures! Eight other Reality Check counties participated in this event.


Adirondack Balloon Festival, September 19-20, 2002

Reality Check sponsored a hot air balloon called Michaels' Rainbow. Two powerful banners were displayed by our balloon to get the word out about Big Tobacco.


RC Rock Fest, October 19, 2002

Reality Check teamed up again with some local talent to kick off our movie initiative campaign called Hollywood & Tobacco: Headed Toward a Break Up. Again this concert was scheduled for Sheppard Park but we were rained out again!! Fort William Henry generously worked with us and let us use Towers Hall. The event recruited over 90 teens and was a success. The bands who played this event were, Four In July, Equilibrium, Horse in a Box and Down Turn.
